This is America…

Proud to be an American? If this is a bad thing, why does the whole world still clamor to visit or move here?

America isn’t just prosperity – although we have enjoyed that. America isn’t just freedom of religion – though we have enjoyed that. And America most certainly is not what movies and television portray.

America is a dream, a hope, an experiment. Before our Constitution was set in place, the world had never known a republic with democracy. The founders of this great nation weren’t positive it would work or last. But a dream was in the hearts of those who settled here. Hope was anchoring them to the belief that it was okay to want to live free of government intrusion. And so the experiment began – fourteen years after we declared independence – 1790 – our constitution became the law of the land.

There’s been amendments. It is regularly challenged. There are those who say it’s outdated. There are many who want to circumvent it.

But the truth is the experiment worked and a nation grew – prospered – respected each other’s rights to: life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

The glue that has held it together is a society founded on Christian beliefs. What are the ills of society today: broken families, confused sexuality, crime of all sorts, hatred of Christian faith. All the things the Bible teaches will drown us in sorrow are the things everyone today feels they have a right to. That we should all tolerate. And yet suicides increase, hatred increases, and our society is wobbling into being brought to an end of the experiment.

This is the only hope for America: “if My people, who are called by My Name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” (2Chronicles 7:14 NIV)

Father, thank you for this great nation called America. We have much that needs healing. We pray for hearts that are hard and bent on serving self to be softened. And we pray for hearts that claim You to be convicted to reach the hurting. In Jesus’ Name, God Bless America, Amen

  2. It is the arrogance of citizens of the USA that never ceases to amaze the rest of the world.
Has the democratic dream worked? No! Just as democracy has failed all over the world the USA is an example of the “emperors new clothes”. The only hope that Christians can promote is Kingdom of God ruled by Jesus – Matthew 6: 33, Matthew 6: 10, the list of scriptures is extensive. Where true Christians values are promoted the system never fails, when we add human opinion to the mix we fail.

God will bless those who do his will. The bible promise doesn’t say the USA is his chosen nation but describes accurately the people he has chosen for his name. Millions will agree with your blog and I don’t criticise your comments, however the accuracy of the biblical interpretation is where the whole thing falls apart.

Turn to the bible for the answers, politicians have no long term influence on where humanity is heading. The only safe government is theocracy.

    • Perhaps you misconstrue arrogance with apathy – while America does have much to be proud of in that we work for what we have – too many have forgotten their God. We are a republic not a democracy – we use a democratic system to elect those in government. As there are no perfect men, there will be no perfect government. Yet the will and desire of man to choose is least interfered with in America, at least at this time. The path we are on may indeed lead us to being like much of the rest of the world. The Bible does have the only answers – and some day Jesus will return and only those whose call on His name will live eternally in peace with Him. Blessings as you continue to search for only the answers He can give.

  3. I don’t think the whole world clamors to move to America. Maybe this was true once but nowadays not so much. But, yes, I do think we need to pray for America. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. God bless you!
